16 Sunrises (2018)

Nos anos 1970, em plena Guerra Fria, o Governo Americano e a Nasa unem-se numa farsa: uma missão tripulada até o planeta Marte é encenada num estúdio para enganar a opinião pública, forçando o mundo a acreditar nos progressos científicos e tecnológicos dos Estados Unidos. Três astronautas são obrigados a participar da farsa e das filmagens. O problema é que a cápsula não-tripulada enviada ao espaço explode na reentrada, e agora o governo não pode deixar os astronautas vivos para revelar a mentira. Segue-se uma diabólica perseguição.

Desde a “Aurora do Homem” (a pré-história), um misterioso monólito negro parece emitir sinais de outra civilização, assim interferindo no nosso planeta. Quatro milhões de anos depois, no século XXI, uma equipe de astronautas liderados pelo experiente David Bowman (Keir Dullea) e Frank Poole (Gary Lockwood) é enviada ao planeta Júpiter para investigar o enigmático monólito na nave Discovery, totalmente controlada pelo computador HAL-9000. Entretanto, no meio da viagem, HAL-9000 entra em pane e tenta assumir o controle da nave, eliminando um a um os tripulantes.

Em 1970, a NASA envia à Lua um novo grupo de astronautas na missão Apollo 13. Porém, já no espaço, um tanque de oxigênio explode. Com o acidente, os astronautas Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert e Fred Haise não conseguem seguir sua rota, correndo o risco de ficar sem oxigênio e energia suficientes para voltarem à Terra. Agora, a equipe a bordo e a equipe em terra firme correm contra o tempo para consertar a nave.

Um asteroide ameaça colidir com a Terra e destruir todas as formas de vida. A solução é colocar uma bomba nuclear no interior do asteroide. Para realizar esta missão, convocam um perfurador de petróleo, e ele monta uma equipe nada convencional para os padrões do governo.

Aurora (Shirley MacLaine), uma viúva, e Emma (Debra Winger), sua filha, apesar de se amarem tem uma relação conflituosa. Entretanto, tudo muda quando a filha descobre que está com câncer e, ao mesmo tempo, toma consciência de que foi traída por Flap (Jeff Daniels), seu marido. Simultaneamente sua mãe após anos passa a se interessar por Garrett Breedlove (Jack Nicholson), um ex astronauta vizinho e paquerador.

O cientista Reed Richards convence seu arrogante colega Victor von Doom a financiar seus experimentos com energia cósmica. Na estação espacial Von Doom, a tripulação, incluindo o astronauta Ben Grimm, a pesquisadora Sue Storm e o piloto Johnny Storm, é exposta a uma tempestade cósmica misteriosa que dá superpoderes a eles. The year is 1997, and World Peace seems to have come, with most classic weapons of mass destruction having been abandoned. However, orbiting the Earth there is the European/American space station FLORIDA ARKLAB, capable of controlling the weather at any location on the planet underneath. A civil project by nature, it might be abused as an offensive weapon, since it could deliver devastation to any potential adversary simply by creating natural disasters such as storms and floods. No wonder the space station soon becomes the central point in rising political tensions between East and West, next stop World War 3 (as indicated by the tagline "The end of our future has already begun"). We follow the main protagonist Billy Hayes, an astronaut aboard the station, as he wades through a plot of secrecy and sabotage trying to tell friend from foe in the process.

A law avidly adhered to by the inhabitants of a small village, who collect the space debris that falls downrange from the nearby Baikonur space station. The last two youthful members of the village are the radio operator Iskander, known as Gagarin, and the spirited Nazira. While Nazira finds it increasing difficult to conceal her love for Iskander by means of her unconventional behaviour, Iskander is evidently not only crazy about Baikonur and the vastness of outer space, but also deeply smitten with the beautiful French astronaut Julie Mahé, whose journey to the stars he wistfully follows on television.

A NASA precisa sempre substituir a equipe, já que os astronautas enlouquecem caso permaneçam por muito tempo na base - o que não ocorre com os vizinhos soviéticos. Para resolver a questão, a NASA decide substituir sua equipe e procura um casal de cientistas para a função. Os escolhidos são Pete Mattemore (Jerry Lewis) e Eileen Forbes (Connie Stevens). Só que, em nome da moralidade, o governo americano exige que eles se casem antes de serem enviados ao espaço.

After disobeying orders, trying to apprehend a out-of-control soldier on a rampage, tough soldier Captain Cal Brody is sentenced by his commanding officer, Colonel Alexa Stant, to guard the stasis chamber where the Earth's population is in suspended animation for 3 months. But the USS Legacy is taken over by criminal Max Durbin and a group of escaped convicts, who have been freed by Alexa from the prison colony on Earth and Alexa decides to help them. Cal sets out to stop Max and Alexa's scheme and believes he is the only man who can stop Max, who plans to use Cal's scientist girlfriend Kendall Foster experiment to make the Earth inhabitable again...

The center point of the film is the safety inspections and arguments surrounding the use of the o-rings that ultimately were blamed for the explosion.
