Após retornar como herói da Guerra da Coréia, Raymond Shaw (Laurence Harvey) e seu pelotão não conseguem se lembrar direito o que aconteceu para ele ter recebido tal condecoração. Bennett Marco (Frank Sinatra) e um outro soldado, que faziam parte do pelotão, começam a ter pesadelos horríveis sobre alguns acontecimentos vividos durante a guerra.
