Sinopse
Ramón Sampedro (Javier Bardem) é um homem que luta para ter o direito de pôr fim à sua própria vida. Na juventude ele sofreu um acidente, que o deixou tetraplégico e preso a uma cama por 28 anos. Lúcido e extremamente inteligente, Ramón decide lutar na justiça pelo direito de decidir sobre sua própria vida, o que lhe gera problemas com a igreja, a sociedade e até mesmo seus familiares.
Começa uma nova etapa na vida do pequeno Moncho. Entra para a escola do povoado, onde tem aulas com o velho, sábio e amável professor Don Gregorio. Descobre por outras vias o sexo, o amor, a música. Um mundo deslumbrante se descortina ante seus olhos. Para manchar o aprendizado de Moncho, porém, chega a guerra pelo poder e o garoto entenderá que a mentira faz parte do jogo.
Após a morte de seu irmão Sergio, o enfermeiro de asilo Mario (Luis Tosar) se prepara para um novo capítulo da sua vida com a chegada de seu primeiro filho. Mas, quando um chefe de cartel é enviado ao asilo para os cuidados de Mario, ele começa a questionar se seu dever é mais importante que as vidas que este homem destruiu.
