Quando um barco à deriva é abordado na baía de Nova York, um dos policiais é atacado por seu único tripulante: um morto-vivo que é rapidamente abatido. O barco pertence ao pai da jovem Anne, que desapareceu numa ilha do Caribe. Ajudada por um repórter, Anne contrata os serviços de outro barco, comandado por um casal em férias, e vai à procura do pai. O que eles não sabem é que, na ilha, uma epidemia devastadora transformou a maior parte dos habitantes em zumbis devoradores de carne humana.

An expedition in the South Pacific lands on a tropical island where the natives worship the mysterious deity Gappa. An earthquake opens up an underground cavern and a baby reptile is discovered inside. The natives warn the foreigners to leave the hatching alone, but they don't listen and take it back to a zoo in Japan. Soon after, moma and papa Gappa start smashing Tokyo looking for their kidnapped child.
