Jorge Furtado é diretor e roteirista de oito longas, entre eles O homem que copiava (2003), Saneamento básico, o filme (2007) e Rasga coração (2018). Dirigiu também curtas premiados no Brasil e no exterior, como O dia em que Dorival encarou a guarda (1986) e Ilha das Flores (1989). Seu nome está por trás de numerosas séries de TV, como Doce de mãe (direção, 2002) e Sob pressão (criação e roteiro, 2018). É um dos sócios-fundadores da Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre, produtora que em 2020 completa 33 anos de atuação no mercado de cinema e TV.
