Qual a essência do artista? O documentário trabalha o que é ser artista e as dificuldades enfrentadas para sê-lo. Dentro do sistema capitalista, onde o lucro é o maior objetivo, o fazer artístico, atividade instável que muitas vezes vem sem grandes recompensas financeiras, toma uma posição secundária dentre as prioridades de um indivíduo. A arte, muitas vezes, é vista como hobby e não como profissão. Apesar disso, existe um seleto grupo de pessoas que consegue refutar essa ideia e faz, da arte, seu ofício. “Eu, artista” mostra como acontece esse movimento, que é, ao mesmo tempo, tão pessoal e tão revolucionário. A partir do relato direto de quem optou por viver essa experiência diariamente, o documentário mostra os reais obstáculos e glórias de quem nunca deixa de ser artista.
