Os formosos Andre e Colette Bertier são um casal extremamente feliz. Quando Colette apresenta seu marido para a sua melhor amiga Mitzi, que flerta com todos os homens que vê pela frente, Andre tenta ao máximo resistir às investidas da amiga. Mas ela é bastante insistente, além de ser muito bonita, que faz com que ele invariavelmente traia sua mulher. O marido de Mitzi quer se divorciar, e a está mantendo sob vigilância constante. Andre acaba sendo descoberto, e tem de se confessar para Colette. Mal sabe ele, que sua belíssima mulher também tem mantido alguns segredos para si...

Professor Stock and his wife Mizzi are uhappily married. The professor, suspicious of his wife, hires a detective to spy on her in hopes of obtaining a divorce. Mizzi sets her sights on seducing Dr. Franz Braun, the new husband of her good friend Charlotte. Dr. Braun's colleague, Dr. Mueller, who has his eye on Charlotte, sees this as his opportunity. Through a misunderstanding, Charlotte thinks that her husband is interested in Miss Hofer, and asks Mizzi to keep him occupied... around and around the circle goes in Lubitsch's refined comedy of mistaken infidelity.
