Em 1934, Diego Padilla vence o Campeonato Espanhol de Xadrez e se encontra com a jornalista francesa Marianne Latour e eles se apaixonam. No final da Guerra Civil, Marianne convence Diego a viver na França com sua filha, onde pouco tempo depois Diego será acusado de espionagem pelos nazistas e preso em uma prisão da SS. Na prisão, Diego tentará sobreviver em um ambiente hostil graças à paixão do Coronel Maier pelo xadrez.

El ángel de Budapest (Angel of Budapest) is a Spanish 2011 television World War II-Holocaust miniseries based on the book "Un español frente al Holocausto" (A Spanish against the Holocaust) written by journalist and radio executive director Diego Carcedo. The plot focuses on Ángel Sanz Briz, a Spanish ambassador in Hungary during World War II who helped to save the lives of thousands of jews from the Holocaust by lodging them in Spanish safe houses in Budapest.

A girl, who lives together with her cousin who earns some money by dealing and her boyfriend who is a policeman, is regularly transporting some drugs from Marocco for her cousin. As all of them smoke grass from time to time there is need for more. Deciding to take a friend of hers who has just left home down to Marocco for a transport she gets problems because it is the first time for her friend and this makes it difficult.
