Escaping History
Translator
Ostensibly embarking upon a portrait of a "modern-day Abraham Lincoln", Escaping History traces the development of a relationship between the videomaker and his subject. As the story unfolds, it veers from the objective to the highly personal. The tape relates the story of Mel Glasser, a recovering schizophrenic who, having adopted the persona of Abraham Lincoln, has made considerable progress in the last twenty years. The tape refuses to romanticize Mel's condition; he speaks frankly with intelligence and humour, and takes Applegath on a special journey.

The Thief Lives in Hell
Director
A man loses his job and starts to tumble. Social assistance awaits him at the first level, a poor neighborhood in the second. In the third, the wildlife of its neighbors affects its mental state. Once developed, rather than reassuring him, the films will make him go from disarray to psychosis.

Gus is Still in the Army
Director
"I joined the army so I could travel and see the country. I saw Northern Ontario during training exercises. In the first few days, I fell secretly in love with another soldier. That's when I asked to be released from the army. I had a super 8 camera with me, so I could film stuff to show my mother on leave. This film tells a story, but not exactly the one I'd intended..."
