A história retrata a realidade de uma família da favela do Vidigal e se passa nos dias que antecedem a festa de 12 anos de Léo, filho da batalhadora Rita. Ela não mede esforços para fazer uma grande comemoração para o menino, mas, no dia do evento, descobre que o marido, Dudu, envolvido com drogas, roubou todo o dinheiro destinado à festa. A partir daí, a protagonista vai precisar superar vários obstáculos para resolver o problema e, para isso, terá que contar com a compreensão do garoto e com uma grande rede de apoio dos amigos.

The documentary stars the owner of the salon, Fernando “Pablo” Mupapa, as he unfolds from the haircut ritual to open himself up to the voices and reports of immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo living in Brazil. Through a connection with Africa, the dialogues between Pablo and his clients recorded by the filmmakers reveal assertions of identity and the dream of an anti-imperialist revolution.

A 21 year old American exchange student is about to finish up her year abroad in Brazil. While out for a night on the town with her boyfriend Gabriel, they are both kidnapped. Gabriel is repeatedly beaten while Mary is raped by her captors during a six-hour abduction nightmare. After she gets away Mary is forced to choose between seizing a chance at freedom and letting Gabriel be killed, or returning to her brutal attackers.
