Sarah Sparks is pregnant and feeling wholly ambivalent, despite her boyfriend's pure enthusiasm. Rudy Russo (Kurt Russell), um vendedor de carros usados, necessita de dinheiro para concorrer ao Senado. Assim fala com Luke Fuchs (Jack Warden), seu chefe, que concorda em lhe arrumar os 10 mil dólares que ele precisa. Entretanto, um "acidente" elaborado por Roy Fuchs (Jack Warden), o irmão gêmeo de Luke e ferrenho rival nos negócios, mata Luke.
