Alexander Philipopoulos, a famous journalist in a French political magazine, is returning to his birthplace in northern Greece, looking for the truth about his father Lazarus, who lived as political emigrant in the neighboring country of Macedonia.

The story of a retired music professor, Misha Brankov, who under unusual circumstances discovers his true origins. At the place where once stood a Nazi concentration camp for Jews during World War II, a metal box filled with documents is found. It was buried by an inmate Isaac Weiss in the year 1941. The professor finds out that his real parents, the Weiss's, gave him away to their friends, the Brankovs, just before they were taken into the camp. Inside the box there is an unfinished musical score, called "When day breaks", composed by the inmate Isaac Weiss. Searching for the truth about himself and his origins, Misha discovers the little-known truth about Judenlager Semlin camp, one of the worst Nazi execution sites in the heart of contemporary Belgrade. At the same time, the professor's obsession is to complete the composition, started by his father, and to perform it on the site of the former camp... which he, after many vicissitudes, finally succeeds.

Impure Blood (Serbian: Нечиста крв, Nečista krv) is a 1996 film adaptation of the Impure Blood novel written by Borisav Stanković. It is concerned with themes of Serbian south, in the reforming in late 19th century.

This is a film about ordinary civilians, who on June 26, 1991, the day when war broke out in former Yugoslavia, find themselves in Slovenia. All of them are individuals who, on a warm summer day, suddenly find themselves in the midst of war.

In one Vojvodinian castle, the preparations for the play that will be performed by members of the Association of the blind are in the process. Obsessed by the dreams of a comfortable life, son of a coal miner comes back to his native country with plans to sell his father's house in order to travel to the African diamond mine in Katanga. A Macedonian village has always struggled to find ways to bring water to its arid land - a struggle that may be won when a native son returns from America with the idea of setting up a watermill. Such an enterprise gets two villages in conflict over water rights, threatening to permanently turn people against each other. In the past, the territory had been occupied by the Italian armies, and a flashback shows a massacre in one village, a revelation that disaster has been a part of their history, in one way or another. No matter how he argues, the young man who advocated the watermill loses out to the builders of a dam - something that does not bode well for the low-lying village.

A young painter comes to the monastery where he's supposed to paint Virgin Mary. There he meets and falls in love with a beautiful novice named Agripina, eventually modeling his artwork by her appearance. This gets him in trouble with the church canons and Mother Superior, and he leaves.

In the conflict with the enemy in one battle lost in advance, the risk to die in vain, partisan Mitko Angelov, fleeing from the battlefield. He climbs onto the train and goes to see his mother, who has just returned from internment. When he returned to the brigade, Mitko was declared a deserter and was disarmed and bound. Since he lost his weapon, the Commissioner sent him to patrol the action to take weapons from the Germans. All partisans patrol that went with him dying and the only Mitko and Vane, who was seriously injured remain alive. Thinking it was dead Vane, Angelov returns to the brigade. But the commander did not believe him, thinking that he had fled from the battle, and that is why the prison in the basement. In the meantime, get wounded fighter Vane, and the story of the heroic struggle led by Mitko. But at the same time, a military court condemned him to death for desertion.

March 1903. The Ottoman Empire is in a process of disintegration. Only Macedonia is not still liberated in the Balkans. The Macedonian revolutionary movement is in full growth. The Turks are trying to keep their last bastion in Europe. The Macedonian people are being exposed to the most severe oppressions as it is due to the revenge of the Turks for supporting and protecting the komitas - Macedonian freedom-fighters. In such a case the Turks besiege a village where a weeding ceremony is taking place. They shoot at the peasants, round them up and most of them are being taken away. More than two hundred people are taken prisoner in the fortress. The Turks sentence them to from 15 to 101 years in prison. Then the prisoners are loaded on a ship and are transported to Asia Minor. On their way through the desert the Macedonians are exposed to various humiliations. A lot of them overeat and die. In October 1908, the prisoners arrive at the place where they are to serve the sentence.
