Roger Greenberg é solteiro, quarentão e propositalmente desocupado. Em busca de um lugar para recomeçar sua vida, ele concorda em cuidar da casa de seu irmão em Los Angeles e tenta se reaproximar do seu antigo colega de banda e de sua ex-namorada. Mas velhos amigos não são necessariamente melhores amigos, e Greenberg logo se vê forjando uma relação com a assistente pessoal de seu irmão, Florence. Apesar de suas tentativas de não se envolver, Greenberg percebe que ele pode, no mínimo, ter encontrado uma razão para ser feliz.

Cut to 2005: Eels leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, releases the highly acclaimed Blinking Lights and Other Revelations double album and assembles his most ambitious version of the EELS yet: a seven piece band consisting of Everett backed by a string quartet and two multi-instrumentalists juggling lap steel, guitar, upright bass, mandolin, saw, melodica, celeste, pump organ, piano, and a trash can and suitcase drum set.
