This film shows a detailed narration of his early life, marriage, interaction with Sister Nivedita, contributions in India’s freedom struggle and activities in Jugantar, Alipore bomb blast case, and the subsequent trial.

Anand Math is a 1952 Hindi patriotic-historical film directed by Hemen Gupta, based on Anandamath, the famous Bengali novel written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1882. The novel and film are set in the events of the Sannyasi Rebellion, which took place in the late 18th century in eastern India, especially Bengal.

The lesser known 'Sannyasi Rebellion' of the 18th century forms the base of this film. Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay's 'Anandamath' is regarded as one of the most significant patriotic novels that fueled the national movement. India's national song 'Vande Mataram' was actually taken from this novel, which was once banned by the British rulers.

Prafulla is married but is shunned by her wealthy father-in-law, Haraballabh, because of a spat between him and her mother on the day of her wedding. By custom prevalent at that time, a girl, once married, could not be divorced or remarried. Heartbroken at the fate of her only child, her mother died after a few years. Prafulla takes the drastic step to flee in the middle of the night to find the house of her in-laws whom she has never known, without any money, with knowledge of only the name of the village and name of her father-in-law. Benevolent people, surprised to see her traveling alone, help her on the way. This is consistent with the custom in Bengal that all unknown women were to be treated as one's own mother. Her father in law rejects her and tells her to steal for a living. She goes back and through a lot of experiences meets the dacoit head Bhavani Thakur.

Based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's iconic Bengali novel "Anandamath". Set in 1770, against the backdrop of the Sannyasi Rebellion when a brotherhood of monks banded together to fight the ruling British East India Company.
