7 de agosto de 1942. O Exército dos EUA envia uma grande frota naval para atacar Guadalcanal. Isso marcou o início da contraofensiva do Exército dos EUA no Pacífico. Guadalcanal teve que ser defendida até a morte! Após seis meses de batalha mortal, as munições e os suprimentos da guarnição japonesa foram exauridos. Sofrendo de fome, feridas, malária e disenteria amebiana, eles foram finalmente derrotados e a contraofensiva dos militares dos EUA que conquista Guadalcanal espalha-se de ilha em ilha como uma avalanche. Bougainville, o arquipélago de Bismarck, Nova Guiné, Makin, Tarawa e finalmente, a 7 de julho de 1944, os defensores de Saipan escolheram o caminho dos "gyokusai". (Gyokusai = morte honrosa em vez de rendição, seja lutando contra a morte ou suicídio).
No sexto e último episódio, Rentaro Mikuni rouba a cena como Baiken Shishido, inimigo de Musashi. Mikuni é o vilão do filme, mas ele é um marido e pai dedicado. Ele tenta matar Musashi apenas para vingar a morte de seu cunhado. Enquanto Baiken (que empunha uma corrente e foice contra a espada de Musashi) é um personagem muito humano e as emoções que Mikuni exibe em sua performance são bastante críveis e atraentes.

Japan, 1860. The men of the Mito clan, victims of the Ansei purge, anxiously prowl around the Sakurada Gate of Edo Castle with the intention of assassinating Naosuke Ii of Hikone, tairō of the Tokugawa shogunate and responsible for their misfortune.

A floating amorphous life-form descends from the atmosphere to consume carbon in the form of diamonds.
The story tells of a group of samurai who were left leaderless (becoming ronin) after their daimyo (feudal lord) was forced to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) for assaulting a court official named Kira Yoshinaka, whose title was Kōzuke no suke. The ronin avenged their master's honor after patiently waiting and planning for over a year to kill Kira. In turn, the ronin were themselves forced to commit seppuku for committing the crime of murder.

The first instalment in Toho's popular Wakadaishō (Young Guy) series.
An early Okamoto yakuza film, though it's not in the Underworld series (along with The Last Gunfight and The Big Boss) despite being alternatively known as "Death of the Boss." While Okamoto did not write this film and took on the project because he was assigned and "just doing [his] job" according to an interview with Chris Desjardins in Outlaw Masters of Japanese Film, he did express a general excitement about working in action cinema (which shows through in this film's energy.)

Mintaro
Chuji Kunisada returns to his home village to find that Jubei Matsui, the corrupt magistrate, has been responsible for virtually destroying Kunisada's family. A final tragedy leads Kunisada to join with a band of rogues living in the forest in robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, always with an eye toward avenging himself on Magistrate Matsui.
Suspense drama about a married salaryman whose affair with one of his co-workers is compromised when, returning from a clandestine meeting with his lover, he runs into a neighbor who is later accused of murder. Questioned by police about the neighbor, and blackmailed by his lover's neighbor, the salaryman's lies lead him on a path to destruction.
Tomita
Japanese police detective Saburo Fujioka is suspected of corruption, demoted, and sent to the city of Kojin. Kojin is the scene of fierce fighting between rival gangs. Fujioka is assigned to investigate the death of the wife of gangster Tetsuo Maruyama of the Kozuka gang, probably at the hands of one of the Oka gang. During a gang gunfight, Maruyama is rescued by Detective Fujioka and the two become friends. But Maruyama insists on avenging his wife's murder, even if it means conflict with his new friend.
When Sergeant Okubo's brother is murdered at a Japanese outpost in Northern China during the Second World War, Okubo poses as a war correspondent and seeks out his brother's killer.
Ryuta and Mineo Komatsu are brothers, both yakuza (gangsters). Mineo, although complicit in crime, even murder, wants out of the gangster life, hoping to become a successful singer instead. Ryuta loves his brother, but Mineo's possible defection presents problems for the gang, and Ryuta realizes he must kill his brother if he wants to survive.

Farmer
No século XVI, durante a era Sengoku, quando os poderosos samurais de outrora estavam com os dias contados, pois eram agora desprezados pelos seus aristocráticos senhores. Kambei (Takashi Shimura), um guerreiro veterano sem dinheiro, chega em uma aldeia indefesa que foi saqueada repetidamente por ladrões assassinos. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, a brilliant tactician, is a loyal subject of the emperor, despite his grave misgivings about leading Japan's navy into war with the United States. He opposes the attack on Pearl Harbor, but, overruled, he leads his forces to the best of his ability.
