Bob Montagnet (Nick Nolte) é um americano viciado em jogo e em drogas que vai parar no Sul da França, sem sorte nem dinheiro. Bob elege como ambiente perfeito para exercitar suas habilidades a boate do inescrupuloso Remi (Marc Lavoine). Lá ele se encanta pela jovem Anne (Nutsa Kukhianidze), que tira da prostituição. Depois de uma briga envolvendo a polícia e Remi, Bob salva a vida do detetive Roger (Tchéky Karyo), de quem é amigo de longa data. Após ver seus últimos trocados irem embora nas corridas, Bob recebe um ousado convite: participar de um grande golpe com a ajuda do colega Vladimir (Emir Kusturica), no qual assaltarão um dos principais cassinos de Montecarlo no dia do Grande Prêmio de Mônaco.
