Com SOFIA AREAL: um gabinete anti-dor que concluímos em 2016 filmámos a artista em várias ocasiões a partir de 2011, ao sabor de vários encontros e dos trabalhos que íamos fazendo. Não se trata de um documentário retrospectivo, mas sim um filme que está ao seu lado, a seguir o seu fazer, as suas dúvidas, certezas, conquistas. Aquilo que me interessou foi ver a Sofia Areal pensar pintando, pintar pensando. Pois nela, “o que em mim pensa está pintando”, é o seu oficio, o dessa mão que todos os dias faz a alegria. E a Sofia Areal continua a pintar. E eu preciso tanto da sua pintura afirmativa. Que, como ela diz, “é uma questão de sobrevivência.”

A sua influência doutrinária e a sua enorme capacidade de entusiasmo iriam marcar no início dos anos sessenta o grupo de pintores de Évora (Lapa, Palolo) e, nos anos 80, artistas como Xana e Cabrita Reis. Na sua morte, uma comovente homenagem foi-lhe prestada por um grupo enorme e variado de artistas que ia de João Vieira a Miranda Justo. Momentum picks up at sunrise with their attempts to fix the car. A retired mechanic-turned-beekeeper with a heart condition (Canto e Castro) does the trick and convinces Figueiredo to take him cross-country on a motorbike to look up an old friend. Cochofel and the mechanic’s alarmed niece (Maysa Marta) follow in pursuit. The old man dies peacefully on the road, but Figueiredo, having wholeheartedly grasped his deliverance mission, keeps going.

In a specialized, hermetic drama about love won and lost, not necessarily by the same individuals, novice director Christine Laurent has focused on the backstage melodramas of an opera company. The conductor for an upcoming performance of the Marriage of Figaro has his mind and heart on other matters -- an entrancing diva who keeps him enraptured with her presence and voice.
