Vilen Kalyuta

Rússia, verão de 1936. O Coronel Kotov, um herói revolucionário e comandante do exército russo, está passando uma temporada em sua casa de campo junto de sua filha e de sua esposa. Tudo corre bem até a chegada de seu velho amigo Dimitri, um homem charmoso que logo ganha as atenções das mulheres da casa. No entanto, Kotov sabe a verdade sobre o velho conhecido e, no meio do governo de Stalin, sabe que há algum perigoso segredo escondido por trás da aparente visita social de Dimitri. O pastor Gombo vive com sua esposa, três filhos e avó em uma barraca nas estepes da Mongólia. Eles estão satisfeitos com suas condições rústicas, até que um motorista de caminhão russo, Serguei, fica preso com seu caminhão nas proximidades. The main character Vorobei is a professional grave digger and alcohol addict, who runs away from hospital to dig graves instead of treating his head broken by his brother. He comes to cemetery and keeps on working, instead of his friends' advice to stay in the hospital. The world of death turns out to be surrounded by corruption, satanic money-making, cemetery mafia and lots of vodka.

The film is a poetic adaptation of a series of stories (oral and written) about Princess Olha of Kyivan Rus' (Ukraine-Rusʹ) at the start of the 11th century. Inspired by chronicles and folk legends this is a story of a common girl Olha who married Prince Ihor and became his successor on the throne after his murder and one of the most remarkable political leaders in early medieval European history. She converted to Christianity and brought her realm into Europe.

Based on one of Turgenev's Hunter's Sketches: the Lone Wolf of the title is a forest caretaker for a flippant aristocrat. Though he lives in absolute misery in a hut deep in the woods with two small children to take care of, he's feared for his merciless stalking of the starving serfs who sneak in to cut firewood.

The movie takes us through the trials and tribulations of Petar I Petrovic, the man who united Montenegro in the 18th century and led them in the Battle of Krusi against a huge Turkish army to return victorious and pave the first path towards economic development.

A family struggles to survive in an area that was claimed as part of Rumania, Poland and the Ukraine, all within a short span of time. When World War II comes, various family members choose different masters; some even choose to work for the Soviets. War, struggle, marriages, births, deaths--all these events punctuate the story of this large family.
