Sem rumo, entra num bar e conhece Riva, jogador de futebol e gigolô de duas mulheres, Kátia e Solange. Transam e ele lhe propõe a vida de 'mulher de programa'. Passa a morar com Riva e vai conhecendo melhor as novas amigas: Solange é uma profissional, faz 'amor pelo amor, mas precisa de dinheiro', e Kátia tornou-se prostituta como forma de custear os estudos na faculdade de sociologia...

Salomé (Betty Faria), Lorde Cigano (José Wilker) e Andorinha são três artistas ambulantes que cruzam o país juntamente com a Caravana Rolidei, fazendo espetáculos para o setor mais humilde da população brasileira e que ainda não tem acesso à televisão. A eles se juntam o sanfoneiro Ciço (Fábio Junior) e sua esposa, Dasdô (Zaira Zambelli), com os quais a Caravana cruza a Amazônia até chegar a Brasília.
