Quando o rico industrial Thornton Melon (Rodney Dangerfield) resolve fazer uma visita de surpresa a seu filho Jason, na escola, fica surpreso ao constatar que a função dele na equipe de natação é apenas de recolher toalhas e arrumar o vestiário.
