Detective Ann Crane
Tom Stark (Kevin Bacon) é um engenheiro que trabalha no sistema ferroviário. Triste e amargurado, ele dedica todos os seus esforços no seu trabalho para esquecer que sua esposa Megan (Marcia Gay Harden) está com câncer terminal. Um dia, uma mulher chamada Laura Danner (Bonnie Root) se suicida nos trilhos da ferrovia que Tom trabalha.
