Lá ele convive com a realidade dos cárceres, que inclui violência, superlotação das celas e instalações precárias. Porém, apesar de todos os problemas, o médico logo percebe que os prisioneiros não são figuras demoníacas, existindo dentro da prisão solidariedade, organização e uma grande vontade de viver.
