Samath's humble and patient demeanor is also highlighted in the movie and contrasts vehemently with the sense of entitlement we see in children educated in major cities. His innate desire to ensure that his village receives electricity and find a practical method of supplying water to his parents' paddy field are what motivate him. Will he succeed - '5 Samath'.

After his wife leaves him, a man with a severe case of OCD who fears that his own urine is contaminating everything around him, admits himself to a mental hospital for treatment to overcome his fear and win his wife back.

Since her fish salesman husband was killed by militant thugs for his political affiliations, Kusum has been left alone to support her eight children and her mother-in-law. A man and a woman from the two ends of the thirty-year-old bloody civil war in Sri Lanka discover that the color of love is blue, and life, shades of grey.
