Martin Messerman (Craig Sheffer) é um expert em aeronáutica que projeta aviões. Ironicamente ele faz parte de um grupo de pessoas que faz terapia, pois tem medo de voar. Seu grupo decidiu celebrar o fim do tratamento fazendo todos juntos um vôo de Seattle para Los Angeles, mas durante o vôo terroristas assumem o controle do avião. Entretanto Elliott Stephenson (Jeffrey Nordling), um agente inglês que estava a bordo, consegue reverter a situação. Quando parecia que tudo iria voltar ao normal, Stephenson sequestra o avião e tem um trunfo, pois há uma arma química na aeronave que, se for liberada, matará milhões de pessoas.

After falling victim to a burglar, Nelson, a wealthy businessman, takes a trip to the desert with his wife Margo and lawyer/friend Jack. The trip takes an unexpected turn when Jack helps Nelson over a cliff. Jack and Margo return to the site with the sheriff only to discover Nelson's body is missing, indicating he is still alive. As Nelson struggles to survive against madness and the elements, two separate searches for him are conducted--one by an increasingly suspicious sheriff and the other by the treacherous Margo and Jack.
