In the 1970s, a British sound technician is brought to Italy to work on the sound effects for a gruesome horror film. His nightmarish task slowly takes over his psyche, driving him to confront his own past.

Joey Gazelle é um mafioso que ordena a morte de alguns policiais corruptos. Só que, ao invés de atirar a arma do crime no rio, ele resolve guardá-la no porão de sua casa. Nicky, seu filho de 10 anos, e o amigo Oleg o vêem escondendo a arma. Quando Oleg vê seu padrasto Anzor batendo em sua mãe, Mila, ele não pensa duas vezes: rouba a arma e mata o padrasto. Só que Anzor é sobrinho de um mafioso russo psicótico, que deseja a todo custo descobrir quem matou um integrante da família. Desta forma logo a máfia, os russos e a polícia estão atrás de Joey, que precisa recuperar a arma o quanto antes.

One of several collaborative dance films by the Brothers Quay & (dancer, choreographer) William Tuckett. Little enough info around on line, but there's briefly by way of Wikipedia entry. Adapted rather loosely from the works of the E.T.A. Hoffman. Familiar Quays' tropes, much in evidence: automata, trompe l'oeil effects, etc. No credit on the sound design (which is fairly elaborate), tho' that is possibly Larry Sider.

Stiff Upper Lips is a broad parody of British period films, especially the lavish Merchant-Ivory productions of the 'eighties and early 'nineties. Although it specifically targets A Room with a View, Chariots of Fire, Maurice, A Passage to India, and many other films, in a more general way Stiff Upper Lips satirises popular perceptions of certain Edwardian traits: propriety, sexual repression, xenophobia, and class snobbery.

When new teacher Steve Drake joins the faculty at a school for special-needs students, his unorthodox instruction methods raise eyebrows. But attitudes begin to change when he makes a connection with a particularly unruly student.
