Andrew Christie runs the traditional Dolphin hotel in Cornwall, specialized in weddings and honeymoons, but competition from cheap holidays overseas becomes crushing. After his disloyal wife Nell deserts to apply as manager in the Maldives, their main tour operator intends to cancel, which would spell bankruptcy. Andrew comes up with a modern alternative, hosting traditional weddings for Indian couples. to sell the idea, he pretends to be backed by an Indian wife. To fill the part urgently, he enlists part-time maid Rajani Sharma, a, art student, whose father, banker Murali Sharma, wants to go ahead with her arranged marriage to Tarun, from India.

Since the separation of his wife Katja, the architect Florian only sees his two daughters Anna and Sophie every other weekend. While he is looking for a solution to intensify the contact with the children, the doctor Katja tries to get the double burden of work and maternity duty better under control. As she falls in love again and wants to emigrate to Sweden, there is a bitter dispute. Florian sees his rights disregarded as a father, Katja feels constrained by its new claims in their life planning. In court, both want to enforce their interests

Kati leaves her hometown - a small provincetown in northwestern Germany - to live in the city of Hamburg. Being about 18 years old she has just finished school and seeks her freedom away from home. She knows she loves women but never dared to live accordingly. In Hamburg she soon finds a lover and a good friend, too, and the strength to face the narrow-minded people at home. After struggling with it for some time she returns for a visit to tell at least her mother and best friend.
