O riacho Pajeú, em Fortaleza, vítima do processo de urbanização da cidade, corre silencioso debaixo dos arranha-céus. Para a professora Maristela (interpretada por Fátima Muniz), recém-chegada na cidade, a invisibilidade do riacho toca o íntimo do seu ser: transformado em monstro ultra-poluído, ele lhe aparece em sonho com ares de filme de terror. A tentativa de contornar o esquecimento (seu e da cidade) torna-se, então, o esforço em recuperar os fragmentos dessa história, em criar memórias coletivamente. Sob um regime ficcional perfurado pelo encontro com espaços reais e ilustres desconhecidos, o filme refaz o curso do rio de modo a restaurar os pedaços de sua gente.
