Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu depicts the life journey and success of a legendary man who came to be known as the father of Telugu cinema.
Kittu / Krishna is a cab driver who saves his money with the cab owner. When the owner refuses to return his money back, Kittu kidnaps owner’s daughter Nandu. Nandu who is fed up with her father’s unilateral decision about her marriage is happy with the kidnapping. They fall in love with each other in the process. When they were about to accept the ransom money, she gets kidnapped by another kidnapper. The rest of the story is all about who kidnapped her and the kidnapper’s connection with Kittu
Ganesh, an unemployed man, lands up in a company where Keerthi, the girl he loves, works but who is already engaged to someone else. Sudden incidents ruin his life and he again comes across her, but refuses to marry her.
Raghu's father
The story is centered in a village where the parents of first cousins Sujatha (Sadha) and Raghu (Gopichand) decide that both will be married when they become adults. As a child, Sujatha's uncle gives her anklets, which she wears as she grows up. As they grow older, Raghu is caught smuggling money from his house. At school, Raghu beats up a kid for talking to Sujatha. They quarrel, and soon Raghu's family leaves for another village. Sujatha grows to be an attractive college girl, while the villain Raghu becomes a good-for-nothing character. On her way to college, Sujatha meets up with Venkat (Nitin), a poor but handsome, charming enthusiastic boy, and soon after their quarrels they fall in love.
A subtle interplay between clashing ideologies: that of traditional religious values versus modern youth drawn towards extremism. Events overtake Subbaiah Sastry, a highly respected vedic and scholar in his prime now scraping out a meagre existence as a corpse carrier. He endures the contempt of his Hyderabad neighbours due to his acceptance of Tiladaanam, a lowly Brahammic rite involving the acceptance of the sins of the dead in exchange for coins and the food of the deceased. His son, Raghuram, has become a terrorist hunted by the police, at odds with his father. Karthavyam is a 1990 Telugu film directed by Mohan Gandhi. The film was a super hit and was subsequently dubbed into Tamil as Vyjayanthi IPS and became a hit there too. The lead actress Vijayashanti won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in this film.

The film was launched by C. V. Sridhar in 1980 as a Cinemascope venture and was then titled as Sakthi. Sridhar collaborated with Kamal Haasan after the success of the 1978 film Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu, which had also featured Rajinikanth. The film was meant to be the first film which featured Kamal Haasan and Ambika as a lead pair and stills were released featuring Ambika in a swimsuit. The film got delayed and was put on the back burner, before it re-emerged in 1986 under the title of Meendum Suryodayam and shooting progressed. It was planned for an April 1986 release, which got postponed to May 1 of 1986. There was a local authority election in March 1986 and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won seats.
