A solitary woman (Melissa Leo) earning her living by delivering mail and body piercing, makes every attempt to help her volatile adult daughter (Marin Ireland) get on her feet, and in-so-doing neglects herself, channeling all of her womanly desires into her houseplants...even when a charismatic and industrious environmentalist (Josh Hamilton) moves in with them.

Bettie Page (Gretchen Mol) nasceu numa família interiorana, muito religiosa. Decidida a mudar de vida, a jovem partiu rumo à Nova York. Um dia, passeando pela praia, encontrou um fotógrafo amador e aceitou fazer algumas poses despretensiosas. Sua beleza e sensualidade chamaram atenção e Bettie iniciou uma carreira de modelo fotográfica. Rapidamente tornou-se uma das mais famosas pin-up's do país, esbanjando alegria e erotismo. Mas, em 1955, um senador americano iniciou uma dura investigação sobre a influência da pornografia na juventude do país. E Bettie acabou sendo transformada num exemplo de imoralidade.
