O filme consiste em quatro episódios da relação de duas jovens: Reinette, uma camponesa, e Mirabelle, uma parisiense. O primeiro episódio, L'Heure Bleue/The Blue Hour , narra o encontro e o desejo de Reinette de compartilhar a Blue Hour, um momento de silêncio entre os sons naturais da noite e o amanhecer. O segundo episódio, Le Garcon de Cafe/The Waiter , gira em torno de um café e um garçom difícil. No terceiro, Le Mendiant, La Kleptomane, et L'Arnaqueuse/The Beggar, the Kleptomaniac and the Hustler , as meninas discutem suas opiniões divergentes sobre as pessoas à margem da sociedade: mendigos, ladrões e vigaristas.
