It's 30 years later and the Sackbauers have estranged themselves from everyone; only mother "Toni" tries to re-establish the old happy family.

Erika Kohut trabalha como professora de piano no Conservatório de Viena. Ela não bebe nem fuma, vivendo na casa de sua mãe aos 40 anos. Quando não está dando aulas Erika costuma frequentar cinemas pornôs e peep-shows, em busca de excitação. Logo ela inicia um relacionamento com Walter Klemmer, um de seus alunos, com quem realiza vários jogos perversos.

A faithful family has gathered around "Mundl": his wife Toni, who says little but always has the last word; his son Karli, who marries Irmi, a woman from "higher circles", and his parents-in-law, the Werners, who have some difficulty in getting accustomed to the coarse tones of the Sackbauer family. Then Mundl's daughter Hanni brings home a bespectacled intellectual, of all people, and altogether, everyday life in Vienna can be rather exciting.

Trotta is a 1971 West German film directed by Johannes Schaaf. It is based on the 1938 novel Die Kapuzinergruft (The Emperor's Tomb) by Austrian author Joseph Roth. It was chosen as West Germany's official submission to the 45th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, but did not manage to receive a nomination. It was also entered into the 1972 Cannes Film Festival.
