Janna Kyllästinen

História

Janna Kyllästinen is a Brooklyn based documentary filmmaker and editor originally from Helsinki, Finland. In her films she combines her desire to tell true stories with a distinct sensitivity for the psychological and the emotional. She holds a Master's degree in political history from the University of Helsinki, and was a fellow at the Union Docs documentary arts collaborative studio in 2013-2014.

A short documentary exploring the stories we tell about who we are and where we come from. Long Island, NY, is home to some of the oldest Indian reservations in the US, the home of the Shinnecock Nation. According to their creation myth they are ‘the human children of the goddess who descended from the sky.’ Only a few miles away lies the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, where scientists from around the world conduct experiments on what the universe is made of, and what it looked like in the first few moments after its creation.

Gazelle: The Love Issue

Paulo is a 45-year-old Brazilian flight attendant. He is internationally famous in the after-hours world for the fabulous persona he has worked tirelessly to create, his artistic alter-ego, Gazelle. Paulo is HIV+ but never got sick before and now he sees his own life is in danger for the first time. With the sudden and tragic sad death of Eric, his partner of seven years, Paulo must pass through a life transformation. Looking to survive, he embarks on a conscious transformation, beginning with filtering what matters in his life. On his path, besides the new lover, he finds collaborators that push him forward in life and show more meanings for the word Love.
