After Poland won freedom from of its long overlordship by Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, it took a further four years for its National Assembly to elect Gabriel Narutowicz as its first president. Narutowicz was a professor who until his election had been living in Switzerland. Those were chaotic times, and shortly after his election, he was assassinated by right-wing fanatics. This epic Polish film chronicles the circumstances of Narutowicz's election and assassination.

Little boys from a small town want to take a ride on the carousel but they have no money. They push the carousel for hours. They hope that the owner will eventually give them a free ride. In the evening, however, they are already too tired to take up his offer. They are allowed a ride, but they refuse. The Fall of a Millionaire Part II. A ten-year-old boy wants to impress his friends. He is feeble and shy, but he has a piggy bank, which becomes the object of desire for his peers. He tells the other boys that he will soon buy a bicycle from the accumulated savings. When the bank is broken into pieces, the myth of the millionaire is shattered. There are only banknotes painted by the little dreamer. A subjective adaptation of a well-known autobiographical novel by Zbigniew Unilowski (screenplay by Wojciech Jerzy Has with dialogues by Stanislaw Dygat). The adventures of the tenants of a sublet room in a Warsaw townhouse inhabited mostly by students and novice writers, presented against the social context of the 1930s.
