Baseado na obra homônima de Christopher Isherwood, o drama é ambientado em 30 de novembro de 1962, em Los Angeles. George Falconer, professor de inglês, perdeu seu companheiro de 16 anos em um acidente de carro oito meses atrás. A dor da perda não diminui com o tempo, o que faz George decidir se matar. Ele começa então a colocar todos os seus negócios em ordem e fazer os preparativos para seu suicídio.
