Ulisse, Fulvio and Domenico decide to rent an apartment together in order to live with their modest work. However the three encounter any difficulties that have forced them to always be one step away from starvation. Ulisse has to maintain his wife and daughter selling recordings of important foreign singers, Fulvio has the task of reviewing silly scandals of celebrities instead of writing articles for major artists, while Domenico must keep his wife and children going to make love with old single pensioners.
After growing up in Switzerland, 13-year-old Marta returns to a city in southern Italy with her mother and older sister. Independent and inquisitive, she joins a catechism class at a local church. However, the games and religious pop songs she encounters there do not nearly satisfy her interest in faith. Struggling to find her place, Marta pushes the boundaries of the class, the priest, and the church.
Irene (Virna Lisi) vive numa vila antiga e sua maior tristeza é não ter conseguido transmitir aos três filhos a ligação afetiva à casa e ao conceito de família em que foi educada. Sara (Margherita Buy), a filha mais velha, vive em absoluta reclusão depois da morte do marido. Rita (Sandra Ceccarelli), a segunda, é aparentemente mais feliz, tendo um marido com quem casou por amor e duas filhas. Mas a fachada esconde sua insatisfação sexual com o esposo. Finalmente, Cláudio (Luigi Lo Cascio), o mais jovem, é um advogado cheio de dilemas com sua sexualidade. Mas o ambiente de insatisfação na família de Irene será sacudido por dois homens: Sandro (Ricky Tognazzi), que vai transformar a vida insossa de Sara, e Luca (Marco Quaglia), que vai induzir Claudio a fazer sua escolha e declarar a própria homossexualidade.
