No início do verão em um vilarejo turco, Lale e suas 4 irmãs brincam de forma debochada com os meninos, o que acarreta em um escândalo de consequências muito fortes: a casa delas se torna praticamente uma prisão, elas aprendem a limpar ao invés de ir para a escola e seus casamentos começam a ser arranjados. As cinco não deixam de desejar a liberdade, e tentam resistir aos limites que lhes são impostos.
