The sudden death of an old friend is the incentive he needs to return to his African roots where he takes over a dilapidated field station in the jungle of Equatorial Guinea. There he meets an orphan boy with a sunny disposition who opens George's wary eyes to this colorful place. The boy plays matchmaker between George and the lady who runs the local orphanage and all seems rosy until an old friend of George's shows up out of nowhere to throw their lives into disarray as George discovers there are many obstacles on the road to redemption and a few more where the road runs out.

Against her expectation Rosa has to work in the cleaning-kitchen, together with other unpaid novices. Here begins her lonely journey through the alien and hierarchic world of the famous fish restaurant.

Goltzius and the Pelican Company tells the story of Hendrik Goltzius, a late 16th century Dutch printer and engraver of erotic prints. A contemporary of Rembrandt and, indeed, more celebrated during his life, Goltzius seduces the Margrave of Alsace into paying for a printing press to make and publish illustrated books. In return, he promises him an extraordinary book of pictures of illustrating the Old Testament’s biblical stories. Erotic tales of Lot and his daughters, David and Bathsheba, Samson and Deliah and John the Baptist and Salome. To tempt the Margrave further, Goltzius and his printing company will offer to perform dramatisations of these erotic stories for his court.

But when two of the Club members commit suicide under suspicious circumstances, Karen starts to have second thoughts about her new friends. Perante a insistência da sua mulher grávida, Saskia, Rembrandt aceita pintar a Milícia dos Mosqueteiros de Amesterdão, num retrato de grupo que mais tarde ficará conhecido como “A Ronda da Noite”. Rembrandt rapidamente se apercebe que há uma conspiração em marcha e através dessa pintura encomendada está disposto a pôr a nu os conspiradores, construindo a sua acusação sob a forma de um quadro que desvela o lado hipócrita e negro da época de ouro da sociedade holandesa.
