As a lonely middle-schooler experiences the trauma of getting her period for the first time, she discovers her body isn’t the only thing betraying her. "The Girl" explores the feelings of shame, secrecy, longing, confusion, grief, betrayal and anger that are so central to adolescence.

Poppy Valentine, a young circus performer who has grown up in her family's traveling circus, has never dreamed of what life would be like outside of its fences. However, now in her mid-20s and with more unwelcomed responsibility weighing her down, she's desperate to figure out if this life is for her. As she slowly begins to take time for herself, finding independence and even love, she strains her relationship with those around her in the tight-knit circus community. In the end, amidst her overprotective father, stressful circus expectations, and her blossoming curiosity for a life of her own, she must find a way to be happy.

Alyssa, a successful photographer, wakes one morning to find her apartment ransacked and her husband mysteriously missing. Left without even a photograph to offer the police, she turns to her colleague Eve, a talented jazz pianist with a flirtatious charm and disarming grace. Eve helps her confront her husband’s longtime struggle with depression and to, over time, accept his absence. While getting to know this woman through such unusual circumstances, Alyssa is surprised to find herself falling in love again.
