Sarah Jo is a naive 26-year-old living on the fringes of Hollywood with her mother and sister. When she begins an affair with her older employer, she is thrust into an education on sexuality, loss and power.
A writer from New York moves to Los Angeles with his fiancé to adapt a children’s book for a Hollywood producer. A series of meetings begin between the author of the book, the director, and other actors, each having their own take on the direction of the script. The writer and his financier are constantly fighting as the work becomes more and more tiring and gruesome. Fearing medication has made him mediocre, the writer is faced with a choice between having a happy life and being a successful writer in Hollywood.

O projeto é a adaptação da biografia de "4 Folhas" Tayback (Nick Nolte), um veterano da Guerra do Vietnã. A equipe vai ao próprio Vietnã para realizar as filmagens, mas logo o ego dos atores principais causa problemas. Tentando controlar o trio, Damien decide rodar as cenas em plena floresta, sem imaginar os perigos que sua decisão traria.
