Os dias de realeza da princesa Beatrice (Jessie Roce Landis) estão com os dias contados, a menos que sua única filha, a princesa Alexandra (Grace Kelly), cause uma boa impressão em um primo distante, Albert (Alec Guinness), um príncipe herdeiro que há 23 anos Beatrice não vê e que resolveu chegar repentinamente.
