Anna Holtz (Diane Kruger) é uma jovem de 23 anos que sonha em se tornar uma compositora. Como estudante do Conservatório de Música, ela é indicada para um cobiçado cargo em uma editora musical. Devido a uma série de eventos ocasionais ela é designada para trabalhar juntamente a Ludwig van Beethoven (Ed Harris), o mais celebrado artista vivo da época.
