Cantabria’s second independent production was very successful in the cinemas of L.A.’s Mexican neighborhoods, although the narrative actually takes place in Spanish Harlem in New York City. On the eve of Columbus Day celebrations, the boxer Mateo returns home from a stint in prison and realizes that his wife is pregnant, and he can’t be the father. His wife Blanca has in fact been having a secret affair with her sister Lola’s fiancé, Claudio. Mateo confronts his wife, but she refuses to name the father, leading to tragic results.

After winning a trip to Hollywood, office typist Lolita Álvarez (Cristina Téllez) travels to the city of dreams on an ocean liner in the company of her aunt Gertrudis (Pilar Arcos). During the trip, she meets and falls for banker Alberto Guzmán (Rafael Alcayde), mistaking him for a prince while she herself pretends to be a well-travelled socialite. The film features a flamenco-inspired tap dancing scene performed by dancer Edith Davis.

Prior to this, she meets, Don Diego while performing at a club. Unknown to her, Don Diego is actually Captain Andre, who is sent to Spain to spy on her. While in France, Nina discovers Diego's true identity, only after she has fallen in love with him. Nina Maria outwits her potential captors and returns to Spain, and goes into hiding.
