Before the operation, he faces his fear of dying and not leaving a meaningful artistic legacy, accompanied by his sailor boyfriend Roger, his unstable mother Mimi, his friend and agent Rhoda and nurse Richard, all while having hallucinations of his tyrannical frog boss, homeless ladies and sailing.
