Majida al-Roumy is a Lebanese singer, her father is the great musician Haleem al-Roumy who appointed the Lengend Fairuz, in her early beginnings, as a chorus singer at the radio station in Beirut, went on to compose several songs for her and chose for her the stage name Fairuz. Majida al-Roumy was influenced, since childhood, with top Arab singers and musicians like Muhammad Abdul Wahhaab, Om Kolthoum, Abdul Haleem Haafez and Asmahaan. Raymond Safadi, her cousin, was fascinated with her voice and thought that she could be very successful if she pursued singing as a profession. Majida al-Roumy was appointed Ambassador for the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on World Food Day, October 16, 2001 in an official ceremony in Rome, Italy. She has participated in numerous round-table discussions on the role of FAO Ambassadors in helping the Organization combat world hunger. As FAO Ambassador, Majida inaugurated the First Annual Agricultural Week in Lebanon and dedicated the book prepared by FAO “Sanaabel al-kheir” on 8 November 2005 during an official ceremony to celebrate World Food Day 60th Anniversary at the UNESCO Palace in Beirut.
