Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman) é um rico e famoso advogado que com sua bela esposa (Monica Bellucci) chega ao Festival de San Sebastian em San Juan, Porto Rico, dispostos a auxiliar na arrecadação de verbas para os desabrigados da ilha, vítimas da fúria de um devastador furacão. Porém, no meio da festa, ele e sua esposa são chamados para depor na delegacia por seu amigo Victor (Morgan Freeman), para esclarecer o fato de, no dia anterior, Henry ter encontrado o corpo de uma garota de 12 anos.
