Kirsten Dunst é Lidda Daniels, uma garota que, aos 18 anos, resolve sair de casa para procurar pelo pai Charlie (James Caan), um jogador que abandonou a família anos antes. No seu caminho a Las Vegas, ela dá carona a Colonel (Vincent Kartheiser), um atendente de videolocadora que, por sua vez, está indo a Vegas para fazer suas apostas. Logo, Lidda vê em seu novo amigo uma possibilidade de encontrar o pai, que está envolvido em seus próprios problemas na capital dos cassinos.
