Darussalam (12 September 1920 – 26 April 1993) was an Indonesian actor who appeared in more than seventy films in his forty-year career. Born in Bengkulu, he studied to be nurse before migrating to theatre during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies, marrying Netty Herawaty while with the troupe Irama Masa.

Then Yati runs away with the fortune and the child of her affair. Neneng, who stays, commits suicide. Her father realises his mistake and reconciles with Sumiati. Rachmat has also come back for Mira.

Yanti, has to deal with major changes when her parents divorce. Yanti chooses to live with her mother, but a shock awaits her when her mother is remarried to Bambang, a man whose character is far from the image of a father. She does not feel easy at home, loses her motivation to go to school, prefers to hang out with her friends and gives her virginity to her boyfriend, Frans. When Bambang tries to rape her, she runs away from home and stays with Frans. But it doesn’t last long since the widow who supports Frans gets out of jail. So Yanti goes to her old friend, Irma, and becomes a bartender of a brothel in Tandes. One day, her stepfather comes to the brothel and sees Yanti. Yanti avoids him by leaving with one of the guests from the bar. Then Frans comes to take her out of the place. But Bambang confronts Frans so Yanti takes a knife and stabs Bambang. Yanti goes to jail but she gets married inside the prison.

Hendro, Diana’s father, does not approve of her romance with Bije, and wants to marry Tony. Then Diana runs away with Bije to a small village where Diana’s aunt lives. This infuriates Hendro and he orders his men to capture Bije. Eventually, Bije and Diana return. When Diana is at home, she feels pain in her abdomen, and she is diagnosed of having a malignant cancer in her ulcer and won’t live long. Hendro even apologises to Bije’s father, but the latter refuses him. Bije even begs to his father to apologise to Hendro, but instead, Bije is thrown out of the house. Eventually Bije and Diana get married, but before the honeymoon ends, Diana passes away on Bije’s lap.

When Yuwono is proven innocent and is released, he does not find his children at home and goes around Jakarta to look for them. He finally finds them again.

Mbok Puspo’s cafe, at the edge of Kalimas, under Jembatan Merah or “Red Bridge”, is a meeting place for many. Mbok Puspo also sells rags for additional income while her adopted daughter, Sudiasih, runs the cafe and is the shining beauty of the place. The regulars are Ngawang, a small time thief who fails to make his wife happy; Kenanga, who becomes a prostitute to spite her husband; Siswanto, a student who does not have the courage to confess his love to Sudiasih; Pungguk the painter; a civil servant, and a postman. The love stories between Siswanto and Sudiasih; and Ngawang and Kenang are the central plots. Seeing Siswanto and Sudiasih’s love, Ngawang and Kenanga also find each other. Meanwhile, Mbok Puspo is in a dilemma when she receives a letter from her child, Sri Bidari, who was adopted by a rich family.

When she returns from “tetirah” (a Javanese term for a short vacation in a health resort), Mrs. Toto is agitated by the presence of the new housemaid from SKP. Toto calms her down by making up a story that Lena is actually the fiancée of Pardan. But the pretence becomes real love and Pardan and Lena finally get married.
