Um retrato crítico sobre o cenário musical da década de 1980, visto através do olhar de Tony Wilson - um apresentador de TV recém-formado em Cambridge, que inspirado pelo primeiro show dos Sex Pistols em Manchester, funda a hoje mundialmente famosa, Factory Records e a Danceteria Haçienda. As bandas contratadas por ele incluíram Joy Division e The Happy Mondays, enquanto a Haçienda transformou Manchester. Tudo construído sob a filosofia comercial anárquica de Wilson - nada de contrato, só paixão, música e hedonismo - se a banda não gostar, está livre para partir. Ninguém vai embora , mas com dívidas e as ressacas pertubando os cérebros, tudo acaba ficando descontrolado. O comediante Steve Coogan interpreta Wilson em sua luta para manter-se de pé em um mundo de gênios viciados e angustiados. A trilha sonora inclui sucessos dos grupos The Happy Mondays, New Order e Joy Division.

At Manchesters late 88's early clocking we agreed to shoot, me 'n' mental genius Shaun Ryder, but like most other events of our lives filming started late. Four years late, Jun '93: what should've been the Happy Mondays is over. X is sour .No Band, No Deal, No Dollar. No Film. Xcept: Didsbury, just off Barlow Moor, March 23rd. Jamming in X's 13' by 10 gaff, music addict Mr Ryder, brother Paul ex Ruthless Rap Assasin Kermit Bez and drummer Ged line up "Walking the Dog" for a piss on the past. "Kermit sounds shit" says Paul.
