No auge no movimento separatista do Apartheid na África do Sul. Johan é um jovem de 18 anos, em conflito com sua homossexualidade. Ele é fã do grupo pop Culture Club, principalmente de Boy George. Obrigado a se alistar, Johan se inscreve no coral Canários, que faz parte do serviço militar. Lá ele conhece outros gays, mas também sofre com o bullying e homofobia de cadetes e oficiais.
