Gertrude Bell (Nicole Kidman) nasceu na Inglaterra, mas fez fama devido ao seu trabalho no Oriente Médio. Escritora, arqueóloga, cartógrafa e exploradora, ela passa também a trabalhar para o governo britânico como seu representante na região. Logo faz amizade com T.E. Lawrence (Robert Pattinson), mais conhecido como Lawrence da Arábia, que também tem presença marcante no local. Com o tempo, Gertrude acaba participando da criação dos estados da Jordânia e do Iraque.

Algeria, 1960. A section of French paratroopers are sent in search of a missing aircraft in the Algerian desert. The wreckage of the plane is quickly located, but there are no survivors, just a suitcase stamped “Top Secret”. Stormed by enemy soldiers, the troops find refuge in a strange abandoned citadel. Despite warnings from the place’s Guardian to leave at once, they wake up the Djinns, the evil spirits of the desert .
